Monday

You have choices. Choose wisely or there will be consequences.

I find it difficult to write tonight.  I have spent a good portion of my day on the phone with two coaching colleagues.  Both are facing disciplinary issues with players between the end of their regular seasons and their first tournament game. Both issues involve substance abuse.

We know it is out there.

It is present on every high school team.

You are only kidding yourself if you believe it is not.

The quality of an individuals play is determined by the quality of their decision making in the game.

The team that will win is the team who makes the most good decisions

More importantly, the quality of your life is dependent on the quality of the decisions you make.  Two of these young people had college scouts in pursuit of them.  Big time college coaches. They have likely thrown away the opportunity to play on the big stage AND a chance to obtain a free or steeply discounted college education.

Their coaches and teammates are left to deal with the consequences of the poor decisions these players made.

My prayers are with the offending players and their families. I am hopeful these situations will be dealt with in as positive of a manner as possible, that lasting lessons are learned. These are not bad kids. They made mistakes. They need to deal with the consequences of their poor decisions then regroup and move on.  Best of luck to each of you.
